DC Supergirl Casting Choice. I Have Become One of the Nerds.

Image
From the beginning, when I heard that this story is getting adapted into a live-action movie, I became excited. Hearing that Milly Alcock was considered for that role was such a great boost of confidence. I know her only from 'House of the Dragon', where she definitely made an impression, and I knew this casting would be something new and fresh. From all the chatter around it, it seems like this is the best business decision so far for the new projects coming ahead. I love this Supergirl story that they will explore in her upcoming movie. The comic it is based on must be my favorite, and it got me interested in comics in the first place. So, going with an unusual choice like Alcock really made me believe that James Gunn can turn things around. What makes her so unusual? She seems nothing like the drawn character, and the problems that Supergirl has in the story with that sweet face of Alcock just seem unusual. I can't wait to see this incredible revenge story, where Supergi

January Movie Pick: 'Panic Room'

After rewatching 'The Silence of the Lambs' and seeing for the first time 'The Accused', both movies for which Jodie Foster received an Oscar for Best Actress, and watching the trailer for 'True Detective: Night Country' and the praise she got from that show, I am on the Foster train. I'll watch anything with her at this point. She won me over, and after yesterday when I saw another movie pick, 'Panic Room,' directed by David Fincher (responsible for 'The Zodiac', 'Fight Club', 'Seven' with Paltrow's head, and 'Gone Girl' with Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck's huge penis), I now lost my chain of thought. Yeah, back on the Foster train, and now I can't wait to see her in 'True Detective' and 'Nyat'. Foster who suddenly but quickly became one of my favorites in the last month or so, delivered another great performance in this good movie pick, 'Panic Room'. As I mentioned before, 'T

The trend of me watching Native American stories this month continues, this time with the Comanche warrior tribe fighting the Predator. The potential this film has left me craving for more, which is always good when you try to sell a product. But this craving could have been satisfied yesterday with a small adjustment in the way the story was told. I think this is my favorite Predator movie, and I am a fan of the franchise and the crossovers with the Alien from forever. I love that they are going back in time to tell this incredible story of one of the earlier hunts. With this incarnation, they opened a path forward that could explore many period pieces and legendary stories. I really liked the direction of this movie, and you know what would have helped it become the best of the best? Accuracy. If only the Natives spoke their language instead of English, I feel a lot could have been done with that. Also, why do they have to speak so much about modern stuff? You know what would have

January Movie Pick: 'Poor Things'

Finally, a movie brought me back to the movie theater—a movie that I was waiting for months. I knew it would be good; it just looked like something right out of unfiltered imagination. However, after seeing it yesterday and thinking about it until now, I realize that it surpasses my expectations. I remember my only complaint about it was that sometimes I needed even more and never less, but I can see how that was a solid choice made by the director Yorgos Lanthimos, who is famous for creating a whole genre of weirdness in Hollywood ('The Lobster'; 'Killing of a Sacred Deer'). 'Poor Things' very much continues this carving

January Movie Pick: 'No Country for Old Men'

Spoilers: If you haven't seen the movie, go watch it and come back. The film makes you think for a while that the only mistake Llewelyn Moss, played by Josh Brolin, makes is going back to give water to that poor dying man. However, the hunters prove themselves capable of finding whoever they are looking for. Our main protagonist tells his wife, 'At the point when you stop looking for 2 million dollars?' as a rhetorical question—a question that hits you, signaling that there is going to be a final showdown. It's weird that every time I watch this movie, I completely forget it. To be honest, I think that is a gift from the movie gods because experiencing all the shock and craft behind it every time is pure pleasure. This is the story of death, much like watching 'Tom & Jerry' where the cat is after the mouse, the dog is after the cat, the cat kills the owner of the house, and the mouse escapes the police dog, all while killing some of the other dogs. You know

January Movie Pick: 'Bone Tomahawk'

Kurt Russell came directly from the set of 'The Hateful Eight,' avoiding additional expenses on hair, makeup, and wardrobe to work on this film. No, jokes aside, I'm not sure if there's a specific name for this genre, but there should be, and we definitely need more films in this category. I think 'Bone Tomahawk' actually contains the most gruesome murder scene I've ever seen in my life. The second time watching it, I could barely look at it; it's so abnormal and obscene. You might ask, then why the hell watch it? Well, I guess it's a great horror western, and there's nothing else out there with a story like this, featuring my guy Kurt Russell. I fell in love with Russell back when I was a child, and the movie 'Breakdown' (1997) was playing on my TV. Then Tarantino got hold of him and cemented him as one of my favorites. I also enjoy him and his son in the MCU, and although the whole Apple+ Godzilla show, where they brilliantly play the y

Has our allegiance really changed now? Are we no longer committed to any country or border but instead to an economic class? This South Korean film paints that picture well, but at the same time, it shows that it's not the case. The problem is much more terrifying. Director Bong Joon-Ho delivers an Oscar-worthy film that explores the great divide between the classes in our world, showing us this incredible battle for survival and how hard it is to move up when you are always put down. Here, we are observing the contrast between two completely different families from the same region and their way of living and status. As the movie progresses, we see those two paths cross in the most comedic, yet terrifying and realistic way. This dark comedy quickly escalates, leading to an absolutely incredible third act built by the performances during the whole movie. Everyone here stands out; all the actors are able to portray fully realized characters with characteristics we are well aware of.

Living with a False Diagnosis

Image
Let me share my experience with a false diagnosis. I guess this is my cross to bear, and I bear it like no other. My cross turned out to be full of air not once but twice, but before I knew that, it was unbelievably heavy. Now I am pissed off, even though the outcome is positive. I am angry, and I will try to process what just happened yesterday by channeling my thoughts in this article so I can move away from that hurt. Some would say that I am overanalyzing or too dramatic, or my favorite, that I should focus on the positive. How I loathe this advice, especially given by people who are clearly blind to what you experience. Like controlling your anger is the easiest thing and you can switch from night to day in a second. It is fascinating to me how people tend to dismiss each other's feelings, yet they want their feelings validated all the time. Can we change that? Around 2018, I could lose myself searching for details, so let's say it is 2018, I went for a regular check for a

January Movie Pick: 'The Shawshank Redemption'

Image
Is there a more perfect prison movie than 'The Shawshank Redemption' in the history of movies? I dare to say there isn't. It was a late night, after dinner, and we were wondering what to watch. We made some popcorn, had a couple of non-alcoholic beers, and played 'Escape from Alcatraz' with none other than Clint Eastwood. He is a badass, right, but even though the movie was very enjoyable, I never got why he was in that prison. It was always on my mind that he was a criminal, and that bothered me for the rest of the movie. Our guys from Shawshank prison, though, showed a side that made me forget what they did to get inside in the first place. And in both cases, we do not go into gross details of their doings, but you can picture some of it. Immediately after the end of 'Escape from Alcatraz,' we purchased 'The Shawshank Redemption.' We both have seen the movie, soon I am going to read the book, and I will review it here, but this movie has repeat qua

January Movie Pick: 'Killers of the Flower Moon'

Over the past month, I've been watching a lot of Native American stories. It all started with Marvel's 'What If...?' featuring the newly born character Kahorri and continued with the five episodes of 'Echo.' Both of these heroes turned out to be great, although the second show wasn't quite as good. I'm afraid it could bring some negatives to the Native American community because it arouses negative connotations when it comes to mind in so many. I am sure that the better representation was done in 'What If...?' Season 2. In addition to these two properties, I had the time to watch 'Killers of the Flower Moon,' directed by Martin Scorsese. Based on a book with the same title, inspired by a real-life moment in time, the movie unfolds its story over three and a half hours. We had planned to watch it over Saturday and Sunday nights, and much like 'Avatar: The Way of Water,' we didn't feel the passage of time. The story flows, and i

Шопската Салата е Плодова Салата с Лук и Сирене.

Image
