I Am Becoming a Huge Fan of DC!

Spoilers. After seeing Superman and, during the last 7 days, season 1 of Peacemaker , and of course every Guardians of the Galaxy project , I’m starting to love comic book properties again. This feeling is so refreshing and hopeful for the future of comic book media. While watching the first season, I laughed so hard. It’s been a long time since I laughed like that at a show. Any project that’s capable of provoking these strong emotions is likely to become a piece of endearment. Overall, the first season just blew me away—I was sitting on something so funny for so much time. My theory about the deeper meaning of Peacemaker is simple and short, but I’ll put it here because I really think I’m onto something. Peacemaker is actually James Gunn, and the people he interacts with are parts of his real life. His wife literally, his colleagues, his father—who I believe represents Kevin Feige, David Zaslav, or Bob Iger. And the KKK are Marvel/Disney fans, or the ones that came after him about ...

On Wednesdays We Wear Faceghuggers

The lore expands. Knowing that in Alien nobody knew about the xenomorph, I think Ripley is already in space — or everything will end with the death of the Prodigy company. Another guess I have is that, for the first time, we’ll get clear communication with the perfect organism. Wendy is hearing the aliens, and in one of the trailers she mentions that they’re talking to her. I can’t wait to see how this plays out and actually hear that communication. Wendy already displayed her power of controlling machines and altering their code when she answered her brother, who was denied early retirement for another seven months. The show has such a rich lore — completely new for the franchise — and an incredible production that, even with those minor head-scratchers, I’m glued to the story and the new information. I think the show would work better as a binge, but maybe this “week-to-week” format will create an even stronger fan base that promotes the show themselves. I’m already talking abo...

The Horror Renaissance: Waves, Rituals, & the Aging Corpse of Cinema

The Horror Renaissance: Waves, Rituals, & the Aging Corpse of Cinema The last three Marvel movies couldn’t gather as many people in theaters on their opening nights as this horror did yesterday. And this is the third horror movie opening here in Germany this month. Was the success of Weapons involved in bringing such a diverse audience to a horror film, or are the two brothers just riding the wave of A24 and their previous hit Talk to Me, which turned out to be a great movie experience? I thought the three entries would cannibalize each other and, in some way, there was one victim — Together . It was on my radar, but it went straight to my streaming list after a careful consideration of my budget. It’s expensive to go see these movies, especially after July, where another three had to be watched. Weapons is for sure the winner of the new trio, but Bring Her Back , although it’s almost impossible at this point that it will catch up to the success of Talk to Me , still managed to ...

The Naked Weapons - Missed Opportunities and Expectations

Image
The Naked Weapons - Missed Opportunities and Expectations There was a missed opportunity to team up the Naked Gun movie with Weapons and create the new Barbenheimer and Glicket. If you're too pressed from the horror, you can jump and see Pamela Anderson in a threesome with a snowman conjured from black magic in a detective noir police comedy action movie. I laughed, which is all that matters, and Anderson and Nilson just became my favorite new Hollywood couple. So they got that for them, at least. The comedy was stupid, but we stupid also, so I enjoyed.  The Naked Gun and the Weapons came so hot that all the hype did the movies dirty. You hear the best horror and the best comedy, and you go there with your expectations for what the best means. You feel somewhat disappointed, even though both movies were able to deliver, despite the negative parts of the reviewing internet and the rotten tomatoes.  I was so proud of myself. The second I saw the witch graffiti on Julia Garner's ...
